I grew up in south central Pennsylvania in a small town called Elizabethtown. I went to medical school at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. My wife, Karen, and I met during medical school, and we married after graduation. I trained in family medicine at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Karen trained in ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. After completing our training, we moved to a small town in West Virginia, and practiced there for 8 years. We then sold our business to serve overseas, first serving in West Africa for 3 years, then with LIGHT since early 2011. We have two wonderful children: Rachel and Daniel. I enjoy photography, playing guitar and traveling to new and interesting places. I really love singing harmony and have sung in several choirs over the years. The activities I most enjoy in LIGHT are going to the countryside and nursing homes with our doctors, seeing patients with them, and teaching.

I am from rural South Dakota, having grown up on a farm with four generations of my family. I attended medical school at Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire and after graduating in 2009, returned to my home state to complete a rural family medicine residency in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. My professional interests include women’s and children’s health. At LIGHT, I enjoy obstetrical care and working with orphans through the orphanage and foster homes. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and running.

I grew up in San Francisco, California in the United States. I completed residency in family medicine in 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Johann and I got married in 2007, and we have both wanted to serve in China since our college years. Johann is a computer programmer by profession and can read/write Chinese fluently (while my Chinese is probably 1st grade level). We moved to Shenyang in 2013 with our two young daughters, who are learning Cantonese, Mandarin and English all at the same time. Johann and I enjoy the outdoors, sports, board games and finding good Groupon-like deals for good food in Shenyang!
Dr. Brian HolsingerI was born in Dayton, Ohio, USA, to loving parents who still reside there. In 1995, I graduated from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. I did my medical training in family medicine at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating in 1999. I have been married to my beautiful Norwegian bride, Eva, for more than 15 years and we have four children. Some of my favorite activities are to play games with my children and to see how many consecutive times I am able to juggle a soccer ball on my head! We moved to Shenyang, China in 2009. What I enjoy most at LIGHT is to be able to help patients, particularly ones who cannot afford medical care, and to teach the family medicine LIGHT residents about whole person medical care. One interesting and perhaps little known fact about me is that I do like to use the osteopathic manual medicine skills – bone manipulative techniques – to help relieve pain and discomfort. This comes in handy when my wife, Eva, has a headache! I am grateful for the opportunity to serve at LIGHT, and I hope to give myself – my faith, family, medical training, possessions – to bless others.
Dr. Eva HolsingerI was born in Norway and moved numerous times before my family settled in Oklahoma, USA when I was twelve years old. While attending University of Oklahoma College of Medicine I met my husband, Brian, and after marriage and graduation, I completed a pediatric residency in Akron, Ohio in 2002, as well as a fellowship in Global Child Health. My emphasis during the fellowship was on adoption medicine and disaster preparedness focusing on needs of children. I am currently involved in pediatric aspects of LIGHT charitable work, including supporting LIGHT’s foster children and their loving foster parents, participating in orphanage clinical trips, and serving communities of children with disabilities who have limited access to medical care. My passion is to raise awareness and increase the quality of life of marginalized children and their families. I enjoy laughing and living in the moment with my husband and four children and learning about life in China, where our family has lived since 2009. My favorite activities include taking photos, blogging, baking, and making music.
