Orphan Surgeries

LIGHT doctors often meet children with surgical needs, which can significantly impact the life of the child.  Funds are raised to help these children receive the surgeries they need.  We have been able to help with surgeries for neural tube defects, hydrocephaly, anal atresia, among others.

LIGHT uses specific guidelines to select children who need surgical help.  Many factors are considered, such as age, overall health and prognosis of the child, the financial situation of the child’s family, and the family structures that support the child’s recovery.  In general, LIGHT favors patients with acute, curable conditions that are relatively simple to address (and thus have higher chances of long-term success) given the doctor’s recommendations.  Since funding is very limited, LIGHT tries to reach as many children as possible.
